10 May 2009

A spokesman for the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (May 10) urged passengers on board a plane of Northwest Airlines (flight no. NW 025) arrived in Tokyo from Canada via the United States on May 8 to call CHP hotline 2125 1111.

Three cases of human swine flu were confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in this flight.

Preliminary test of two passengers of flight NW025 who were admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital for observation yesterday were negative to human swine flu. They will be put under quarantine until May 15.

These two were among the list of thirteen passengers provided by the health authority in Japan. The other 11 are currently not in Hong Kong.

Information obtained from the Airline concerned revealed that 19 other passengers had also indicated that they would come to Hong Kong.

Three of them have been located and have been admitted to public hospitals (2 in Princess Margaret Hospital and one in North District Hospital). All three are currently asymptomatic.

The Department of Health is tracing the location of the other passengers.
